CME Information - Overview

This course is composed of selected presentations derived from the 2nd annual diabetes symposium for primary care providers sponsored by St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital continuing medical education.

Target Audience
This continuing medical education activity is intended for physicians with an interest in the prevention, detection, and management of diabetic complications; physicians and scientists engaged in basic and clinical research of diabetes and related conditions; and allied health care professionals involved in helping diabetic patients manage their health.

Educational Objectives

The intended result of this activity is increased knowledge. At the conclusion of this program, primary care clinicians (the primary audience) should be able to –

  • Describe the epidemiology of obesity, the available medical treatments and the effectiveness of weight loss in diabetes prevention and treatment.
  • Detect and treat diabetic neuropathies.
  • Demonstrate current techniques for treating diabetic foot infections.
  • Recognize depression and non-compliance in the patient with diabetes.
