Project Heart Curriculum Note: Lesson plans are based on Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and are also aligned for National Health Education Standards (NHES); however, the curriculum materials are suitable for any learning environment. See the Instructional Guide for TEKS and NHES matrices.

Grade 1 Curriculum

The Project Heart: Activities for the Classroom lesson plans designed for Grade 1 provide comprehensive, age-appropriate materials to teach heart-related anatomy, nutrition, and exercise. Grade 1 lesson plans are vertically aligned to prepare students for the grade 2 lesson plans. An instructional guide is available for additional information.

Anatomy Lesson Plan 1  
Anatomy: Where is Your Heart? What Does it Do?

Goal: Students will be able to describe the location of the heart and its general function.

Nutrition  Lesson Plan 2  
Nutrition: Making Healthy Food Choices

Goal: Students will understand the importance of making healthy food choices for a healthy heart.

Exercise  Lesson Plan 3  
Exercise: Exercise for a Strong Heart

Goal: Students will recognize the role that physical activity and exercise play in keeping the body and heart strong and healthy.
