Question:
When is it time to be put on a transplant list?
My brother has cardiomyopathy. He is 32 and is steadily getting worse. He has started throwing clots that are dissolving behind his eye. He recently passed out and is in the hospital. He has a EF of 15%. His cardiologist still hasn't put him on the transplant list. When is it time to be put on a transplant list?

Answer:

The situation sounds serious. Determining listing for transplant requires many factors so I cannot say if that should be done now. I would suggest having a family meeting with his heart doctor to discuss and having him see a transplant specialist if he has not already.
