Dear Friend of the Texas Heart Institute,
Heart and vascular disease are the number one threat to human life and well being in the United States and the world. All of the research, education, and development of new procedures and medical strategies that occur at the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital (THI at SLEH) have as their primary purpose the relief of pain and symptoms that prevent any person from living his or her life productively or result in unexpected loss of life from cardiovascular disease.
I am honored to serve as President of THI at SLEH, and I am pledged to help the people of the world who suffer from heart and vascular disease. An important part of my plan is to communicate, Heart to Heart, with friends and supporters of THI at SLEH each month about advancements in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease, and ways to reduce the risks of cardiovascular disease through healthful lifestyles, medications, and in some cases, other interventions.
The focus of the first Heart to Heart is the JUPITER Trial, the result of which will allow us to identify more patients with otherwise undetected coronary heart disease and treat them with statin medicines to prevent many heart attacks and strokes. This is but one example of the progress that I will share with you in the months and years to come.
We have a saying that we are saving hearts and trees. Future issues of Heart to Heart will be sent via e-mail and available to read online at www.texasheart.org/president. Please assure your uninterrupted receipt of this important and helpful information by providing us with your e-mail address. You can sign up using the form located on this page.
I look forward to hearing from you. All the best, always!
Respectfully,

James T. Willerson, MD
President and Medical Director
