The 13th Great Pumpkin Fun Run returned to downtown Houston on Saturday, October 25. Surpassing last year’s attendance, this year 2,300 runners, walkers and volunteers participated. Whether in the 5K Great Pumpkin Dash, the 3K Goblin Gallop or the 1K Witches Walk, everyone enjoyed the wonderful weather and the post-race party, complete with the live music of The Guzzlers, the Children’s Costume Contest hosted by cardiovascular surgeon, Billy Cohn, M.D., and great door prizes.

Prior to starting the 5K Great Pumpkin Dash, Dr. Denton A. Cooley, President Emeritus and Surgeon-in-Chief of the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital said, “It is gratifying to see so many people on a beautiful Saturday morning. We at the Texas Heart Institute believe exercise is an important component of cardiovascular health, so I commend and thank you for your participation.”
The Great Pumpkin Fun Run was created to promote cardiovascular health through exercise and to heighten awareness about organ donation. It has a loyal following of generous sponsors, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Continental Airlines, CiCi’s Pizza, Coca-Cola, Bank of Houston, Dian and Doug Huddle, Joe Levit Family Foundation, Pin Oak Interests, Porter & Hedges, L.L.P., The Sports Authority, St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, Texas Children’s Heart Center, Tony’s Restaurant, Frankel Building Group, Kickerillo Companies and Watermill Express.
