Dr. Denton A. Cooley and Dr. James T. Willerson
Honored as Living Legends

(News of Note - March 23, 2009) Dr. Denton A. Cooley and Dr. James T. Willerson were honored as 2009 Texas Legends by the Galleria Chamber of Commerce during a February 21, 2009 gala at the Omni Hotel. They joined previous honorees Craig Biggio, Lupe Fraga, Ed Wulfe, Roger Staubach, Neiman-Marcus, and Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Morris. Approximately 400 joined in the tribute to Dr. Cooley and Dr. Willerson, who were recognized for their life-saving medical contributions, not only to the city of Houston, but to the entire world as well.

Drs. Denton A. Cooley and James T. Willerson were honored as 2009 Texas Legends by the Galleria Chamber of Commerce during a gala at the Omni Hotel.

Serving on the Honorary Host Committee were The Honorable U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison; The Honorable Ed Emmett, Harris County Judge; The Honorable Bill White, Mayor, City of Houston; Dr. Richard E. Wainerdi, President, Texas Medical Center; and Mrs. Donna Vallone, Tony’s Restaurant. Mr. Jack Sweeney, Publisher and President of the Houston Chronicle, served as Master of Ceremonies, and Mayor Bill White was the keynote speaker. The evening also featured video tributes to Drs. Cooley and Willerson from such notables as The Honorable and Mrs. Bob Lanier.
